Food waste petition
Chichester District's unwanted food currently goes into our black bins and is disposed of along with the rest of our rubbish. Food wasted in the UK has a major environmental impact. It takes 19,000km2 of land to grow and produces green house gas emissions equivalent to 17 million tonnes of CO2 - equivalent to that produced by one quarter of all UK cars.
Other councils across the country (and within West Sussex) already collect food waste separately and there is a deadline for all local authorities to do so by 2023.
Despite declaring a Chichester Climate Emergency, the Tory-led District Council refused to even debate a Liberal Democrat motion on how to get ready for the 2023 food-waste collection deadline. They refused to discuss making plans, getting costs and considering the logistics of this obligation.
Let the Tories on Chichester District Council know that you want them to take their responsibilities and the Climate Emergency seriously – and demand that weekly food waste collection starts as soon as possible!
SIGN our petition to Chichester District Council to get ready for AND then implement a food waste collection service in Chichester District in advance of the government deadline of 2023.
